A Free State farm with an African safari feeling.
Mount Everest Game Farm, known for a time as Eagle Mountain, is a 1000 hectare, working sheep farm and home to a lively family. If it is a true Free State farm stay you are looking for, we will not disappoint you. If you are looking for a resort, not so much!
We are centrally situated about halfway between Johannesburg and Durban near Harrismith, which is also a good base to explore the Northern Drakensberg, Midlands Meander and Boer War Battlefields from.
Mount Everest is also home to more than 22 species of game and other wildlife, including buffalo and the rare lechwe. We also have waterbuck, 2 varieties of blesbuck, blue wildebeest and black wildebeest, zebra, ostrich, springbuck, European deer as well as the rare “ouvolk” or sungazer reptile and more. You might even spot a colony of meerkat.
Some bushman paintings are still to be seen on the farm, although they have been washed by time and elements.
There is a restaurant on the farm, but booking is essential. We are in the process of acquiring a liquor licence.
Mount Everest is a well know and popular rock climbing spot, with more than 200 bolted routes of varying grades. There are mountain climbing guide books available at reception for sale or lending.
We are continually upgrading the farm , after it has been quite neglected by previous owners, and we are currently refurbishing the wedding venue. The great variety of facilities and activities make the venue ideal for couples, groups, families or singles, adventure junkies or peace seekers. Conferences, functions and weddings of up to 50 people can be hosted at the farm at this stage. We also offer team building activities by trained instructors for corporate clients, schools, churches or individuals.
